Expierencing the World from Your Own Backyard

There are a variety of opportunities for ISI volunteers to help the international
students at UNM.  ISI Albuquerque volunteers assist with providing “Welcome
Services” such as airport pickup/temporary home stay when students arrive. At the ISI Welcome Center volunteers can meet students, share lunch with them, assist with immediate needs,
and help students find apartments.  Often these initial contacts develop into Friendship Partner
relationships.  As one Friendship Partner said, “When international students arrive,
everything is new. They need someone to prepare them for how things are done here,
how we Americans think, and the easiest ways to adjust to our culture. They need
someone who is truly going to be their friend.” ISI Albuquerque provides
the training, tools, and connections to meet these needs.

If you are an American who would like to befriend an international student, contact
isiabq@isionline.org.
